hello everyone, just wondering how most of you clean your filter media.I know your supposed to use tank water to rinse the filters, but the problem I have is theres not enough water to clean the media well enough. By the time i rinse my media a few times the water is so full of crap and stuff it feels like iam just making it worse after the initial times of rinsing. So how do u clean if water is so dirty before you get the media clean? Not only is this more of a pain, but when u have multiple tanks to do and i use the syphon sytem to sink then you cant if u want to use your old water to clean filters?

Dechlorinate water in a bucket and do it that way. Chlorine is what kills the bacteria so if it's dechlorinated it won't.

as it's been mentioned you can use declorinated water but I'm surprised that there is that much coming from your filter.. How often do you swish it out/do water changes??

My water looks pretty grubby after I swish my media out but it's never to an ineffective point. Are you maybe over feeding?

I agree with rtamtam. You should have dirty water but not to bad. I do two tanks in 3 gal buket. Mine are dirty but i do it every two weeks

When I do a wc i'll catch about half a 5 gal bucket full of tank water then clean all my filters in it, then dispose of it.
