When I had cloudy water I upgraded to a more powerful filter and have not had a problem since. I have another tank that has a filter that I consider overkill for the tank it is on. I have never had cloudy water in that tank except when I disturb the gravel and then it is clear by the next day if not sooner. I believe an adequate (or more than adequate) filter will help.

However, before going out and buying another filter I would clean the one you have. I have had cloudy water simply because my filter was too dirty.

Could be over feeding.

how long has the tank been set up? If it's newer it is most likely a normal part of a cycle. Also, what are you water params? What size tank and what are the inhabitants?

Depending on how many fish you have and how long your tank has been up and running, it sounds like you have new tank syndrome.

When adding too many fish during the cycling process you are creating too much ammonia for your bacteria to handle.

By not overfeeding your fish and keeping up with your weekly water changes, the white cloud should clear once your bacteria begins to grow and multiply. HTH.
