Congo Tetras (Phenacogrammus interruptus) are quite variable in coloration because their colors derive primarily from the reflectivity of their scales. I have seen some that have more intense permanent coloration than others but nothing that I would call a 'color variant'. There are, however, other African tetras that go under the name of 'Congo Tetra'. One good example is the 'Yellow-tailed Congo Tetra - Alestopetersius caudalis. It looks similar in body style to P. interruptus but the colors are quite different.
