If I have coral that has been out of the ocean for over a year, and outside in rain water (cured), as well as soaked indoors for 2 weeks with tap water, would it be ok to use in a freshwater aquarium? Would it raise the PH?

Help appreciated,
Thanks,
Andy

i'm no pro here, but that coral was once alive. Are there any other dead animals you would put in your tank?

people put crushed coral in their tanks.... which would be crushed dead animals.

Would it raise the PH?

Yes to certain degree. Since it is made of calcium carbonate it will dissolve and raise PH when the PH sinks below about 7.8. How much of a difference it makes depends on the size of the piece and the water volume. HTH

It will raise pH to 7.6 over time, and harden the water too. No problem if your fish like hard, alkaline water. Not good for neons though.
