I have a 20 gallon tank not been used at the moment. I was going to start a fishless cycle this weekend.

I decided i just want a single male betta in it. So would there still be a need to cycle tank? Will the betta alone cause enough of a mess to feed the healthy bacteria after the cycle. Because im thinking one male betta in a 20g tank wont cause too much ammonia.

As long as there's a fish, there will be ammonia but you might get away with a smaller filter for just one fish.
