So I think this is diatomes. I had a different thread to ask if it was and was told thats what it is. Question is it good bad? How do you get rid of it? This is a 55 gallon fw tank i have a fluval 306 canister a Aqueon pro 200 heater my fish list includes

4 serpae
5 black skirts
5 x-rays
5 blood fins

I have no pleco at the moment. Or any other algee eaters looking at doing this

7-8 of each of the above
1 bulldog pleco
3-4 corry octo cats? Will they eat the diatomes?

Diatoms are not dangerous, just annoying, and unsightly. It happens mostly in a newly set up tank. It is caused by silicate in the water. Sometimes it will clear up in time on its own. Mine did until the city started supplying our water from a new well. Now I have it again and my tank has been set up for years. A friend of mine swears by ottos to clean it up. I have never tried them personally, so can't say if they will eat it.

That is what I have heard as well just want to know if that is the case. Tank has been up for 2 months.
