So I have a freshwater 100 gallon with an overflow and sump like is common in reef tanks. I have plumbing through the stand as a tank like this requires. Wondering if I should routinely be cleaning the plumbing with a long wire brush, etc to avoid long term buildup of gunk and plants etc that got sucked in there and possibly didn't leave. Just wondering if this was a normal maintenance thing that some do? Thanks for any input.

I have a fluval fx5 canister filter, and I take a couple paper towels, and force the through the tubing with a broom stick. But those are flexible hoses, I'm not sure if yours is PVC or what not.
