Eheim classic canisters VS Eheim professional 3 cansiters?

Which is the better filter overall?

Classic does not have baskets so im guessing it's harder to clean and maintain.
But there's a big price difference between them.

Anyone here have both care to compare and give pros and cons of each?

Thanks.

That is pretty much the biggest difference. The classics are hand-packed so they are a huge pita to clean. That being said, they are a 30 year old design, rock solid and inexpensive.

The Pro 3's are a modern design, expensive but pretty much a dream to work with. The modular intake and flowbar sets are nice and flexible. Also, the dark gray is usually easier for me to hide than the one piece green sets that come with the classics.

All of the Eheim's are pretty solid from a build perspective.

Thanks for the input.
Does one model do a better job at filtering than the other?
Aqadvisor rates professional 3 superior.
Thanks again.

I mean, within the two lines their are different filters with different capacities so, yes, a Pro 3 2080 will provide more filtration than a Classic 2217 but that is hardly an apples to apples comparison.

Both lines of filters provide tremendous flexibility in what media you fill them with and what your balance of filtration is.(Biological vs chemical vs mechanical)

So, in summary, no, I don't think one line of Eheim filters provide more/better filtration than the other.

Thanks for that.
I'll probably grab a 2217 because it's cheaper. Wish it had baskets though.
