Emerald Green Cory Cat

Hard to tell from the pics.

Are they like little bubbles (as appear to be around it in the pics)?
Or more like little grains of salt/sugar?
Or something else altogether?

Can you keep it separated for now? Even just floating a tub in the main tank to keep temp?
