Hi all - I'm new to the hobby and looking for advice
I have a 10g tank with 3 white cloud minnows and 3 platties. It was cycled without fish in August, and the fish have been in there since September.
On Sunday, an enormous crack formed and forced me to urgently get a new tank going. I kept as much of the old tank water as I could - probably 3-4g, as well as the old gravel+decorations.
I did have to do a massive water "change" to bring this new tank up to 10g. Im estimating it was 50% new water. I added conditioner to this water as usual.
My tank readings are now as follows: Ammonia =0.25-0.5, PH = 7.4, Nitrite =0 Nitrate =0
My tap water does have 0.25 ammonia. I am worried about the recent spike in the tank. I assumed it was caused by the large water change and stirring up alllllll the gravel via the tank transfer. After 24 hours it did not go down, so I added Prime.
What should I do? I feel like I now have to re-cycle with my fish in the tank? Or maybe the ammonia will level out and I should just add Prime every 24 hrs and see how goes? I am worried about doing more water changes since the tap water has ammonia in it - although this was not causing a problem before this new tank debacle.
I have API Quick Start and could add some to get the "re-cycling" started but dont want to make anything worse....thoughts?
