feeding figure 8 puffers

my puffer is not eating the flakes we give him i heard some of u say they eat snails? does this also go for my kind and what else do they eat?

Normally puffers eat frozen bloodworms and small snails (like the MTS that breed like crazy)

ya ill see if i cna find any small snails bc my puffer is still small

Try bloodworms. Mine likes the occasional ghost shrimp, too. Snails of course, to keep their teeth trimmed. Are you keeping him in freshwater?

ya its a fresh water tank in a 5 gal ill buy hime some ghost shrimp too, my lfs has snails but they r pretty big

You'll wanna get him at least a 10 when you can, and slowly move it up to brackish water.

Nice. Good to hear. He will need snails in his diet no matter what, so he can keep his teeth worn down. Just remember that.

ya i want to have em have a new tank but the only other 1 i have right now is my 20 with my chiclids and that wont work

if i get snails what type bc i want to put 1 in each of my aquariums ,look in sig for tanks,
what snails are good fopr the tanks and will they reproduce alot or will both fish eat them meaning the puffer and the chiclids?\
ill get apple snails thanks to the information from jchillin

k so the lfs didnt have any apple snails they had mystery snails
i got 1 black and 1 gold mystery snails
are these good snails or do they reproduce alot and im not going to put them 2gether, 1 in each tank

I think they're a different species. At any rate they won't reproduce if they're separate no matter whether they're the same species or not.
