I have a 29 gallon tank...what is a good filter to have for it ....have the basic top fin that came with it now...but not so sure if it really does the job

Once you get into the 20+gal range, you can start looking at canister filters. There are many ... I use the Fluval 404. Fluvals are great canister filters ... for your size tank ... you could get away with a Fluval 205. In addition there are many quality HOB filters like aquaclear ... but I'll let others respond.
