Filter Media~

I know that filter media can be rinsed in tank water during pwc's. My question is how many pwc's can you rinse them out? Till they fall apart? Which in my thoughts would be extreme because you wouldn't want to lose effectiveness of the filter media. The box says to change the media once a month~which would be throwing out beneficial bacteria.

IMO every 6 weeks or so unless your water starts to go bad. Do you water test ?

Yes weekly. API Master Kit for Freshwater.

Forget whatever nonsense the box says. For HOB cartridges, rinse them in tank water till they literally are falling apart ... Then you use the old cartridge to help seed a replacement.

For ceramic media ... Those can go years before they begin to break apart.
