Any suggestions on what to put in my 2 emperor 400 media holders? I have a fluval 404 also with pre-filter, bio max, ammonia remover and zeo carb in it.

Filter floss (otherwise known as polyfill). Does a great job of polishing the water & gives your good bacteria lots of room to colonize on. Any big chain store (like walmart) sells bags of it super cheap. Just make sure you get plain poly & not the flame-retardant stuff.

Also, at petsmart, they have gigantic filter pads that you can buy and cut down to size.

sounds good. Thanks. How often do I change them? When they fall apart?

Basically yes, or when the flow drastically slows up. And gradually switch out old for new, or you will cause a mini cycle.

If you use filter floss, it just needs to rinsed in old tank water once a week. It doesnt disintegrate but it clumps so some extra needs to be added on a rare occasion.
