filter media

i have a marineland penguin 170 filter and was wondering how often i should replace the filter media, and how often i should rinse it in teh tank water?

When the water flow slows down is a good indicator that the cartridge needs rinsed out. It depends on how dirty your water is, how heavy the fish load and feedings.
