Okay guys. I have an AC50 and a small sponge filter that have both been running on my 20g tank for a couple months. The sponge filter is going to be used for a 10g fry tank, as soon as my GBR's breed. Today I picked up an AC30 to setup a peaceful 10g tank in my dorm room(we can't have anything bigger than 10g :(). My question...If I throw the sponge filter and ac30 in my new(empty) 10g tank with my betta...is that enough to keep things stable and get some bacterial growth on the AC30 so I can introduce more fish?

Thanks,

Mike

As long as you stick with only the betta for now, that sounds like a reasonable plan. The sponge filter itself should be just fine for bio-filtering. The HOB will catch up in a couple weeks.

With just the betta, it should work. Obviously keep an eye on the parameters to be safe. I agree with Sparky, it should take a couple of weeks for the HOB to become established.
