Filter wont work! Help!

I have a marineland canister filter and when i plug it in it does nothing

I don't recall right off how to open the canister. If you get it open, there should be a spot for water to flow in and out through the lid. One of these two has cylindrical magnet on a shaft with plastic blades on the end of the magnet

Don't get mad if you did, but did you fill it with tank water before plugging it in....?

It has a primer i primed it then plugged it in

What do i need to do to it?

I would pull the magnet (impeller) and make sure that the plastic blades are connected to the magnet and verify that they spin freely roughly 270 degrees before hitting a stop. Also make sure the shaft is intact and has no wobble from side to side

What did i do to it because it worked when i got it

Hard telling from my end. I've had them just fall apart after a short run. If it did this, you should be able to get a warranty. It's such a bummer for new stuff being a lemon!
