I ended up with 5 dkh. I think you also may need to know my ph and that is between about 7.4-7.8. With parameters like this would a diy CO2 be alright?
With a KH of 5 you are good to go for CO2. I would estimate your pH will drop to 7 with CO2, or slightly under even, as that is about what my water parameters are.
My tap is PH 7.6, KH 5. With DIY CO2 and some driftwood, the PH is 7 and KH 5. A KH of atleast 3 is needed to buffer and keep PH from crashing. Your water is fine for CO2.
As TankGirl has pointed out. If you have'nt read Chuck Gadd's web site and downloaded his calculator, it's a must do. Rex Grigg's here on AA has great info as well.
Both of these gentlemen have been kind enough to share thier knowledge. Everything you need to know about a planted tank can be found on thier sites.
Another thing is at night would I have to disconnect anything or just leave it running at night? I have an airstone set up on a timer currently to go on a little after lights out, if that effects anything.
All of those reactors are passive, and they would be fine (the Hagen one is good for tanks up to 15-20 gallons tops) but I prefer a power reactor, or plumbed into the outlet of a canister filter.
