A buddy of mine is about to be once again deployed to Afghanistan and is giving me his 20 gal. which will later be turned into a crabitat. I already took his swordtails and added them to my tank and his has a couple more that he needs to get rid of. The problem is he doesn't know what they are and I don't want to take them until I know more about them. Here's a pic of one of them, sorry it's not the best.

My wife thinks they are pretty because the black shifts to blue at different angles. I had to explain to her that is not the way you get fish. That part is not going well:banghead:. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks.

It actually looks like a female black swordtail to me. I understand they are hard to find. I'd take it if my tank was ready.

google black swordtail :)

Now that it has been googled, you may be right. It doesn't have the long sword tail, does that mean female?

The white around the eye gave it away for me. I was thinking platy at first too.
