Two things you'll want to check is whether it will dissolve in your water, and whether it affects pH. You can drop some acid on it (such as vinegar) and see if it fizzes. If it fizzes, it will affect your pH, which you probably don't want. If not, just boil it to kill parasites, and it should be good.

FYI,

Some rocks can hold gases deep in them, so boiling could cause an explosion. To reiterate, I said could.

I rinse mine at the sink, using brushes I bought specifically for using on aquarium stuff then load them into the dishwasher and let it go through a wash, without soap of course.


Or, soak them in a bucket of water for a few days, scrubbing them off every time you change the water.
 
thanks for everyones input i added em after cleaning them in hot water and soaking for about an hour in it to see f they dissolved much..im gonna monitor the ph and if it changes ill just have to take them out
