I'm needing to buy a new filter and I was going to get another aquaclear but I found a fluval 305 for 85 dollars. I also found the 306 for 110. Is there a big difference between the 2 other than the fact that one is a newer model?

A few design tweaks. Mainly impeller and priming mechanism tweaks.

The biggest and best tweek IMO was fixing the lid so you could get it off when servicing the unit. The '5' series you had to pry with all your might to break the suction. I have 2 new 406's and they are much better with the tweeks they did.

I almost didn't and boy am I glad I paid the extra and did! I used to have to get someone else to unpry the lid on the 405's and then it ususally caused a mess.

Oh man, that sounds like it was a pain.
