So I have had a bit of luck with my rams but recently my old male passed the female seems fine by herself there is a school of about 13 micro tetras with her to play with. But ive began to wonder recently what else could I use as a center piece fish that has a longer lifespan and is a bit hardier. Its a 29 gallon with penguin 150 filter and is about 50 percent planted adding some more plants soon

An angelfish may or may not work with micro fish. What type of micro's are they? Also is your tank planted? Another fish that may work is Honey gourami. They are pretty laid back and IMO are the least likely of all the bettas to mess with small fish.

I would say Bolivian ram or apistos...I have 3 apistos and 2 big Bolivian rams in my 40, and they are both awesome fish
