Can you give snails extra calcium by putting a crab shell in the tank?

I have malaysian trumpet snails (or auger snails) in fresh water and a large clean crab shell.

Never heard of crab shells but I have heard about putting a cuttlebone in the tank to help, also countersinking a piece of kale is supposed to work as well.

ive heard about the cuttle bone and i give them cucumber but I like the idea of recycling the crab shell.

Never heard of it but I guess. Anything carbonate based really. My cuttle bone grew algae so I figured maybe they got some calcium munching on the algae (probably just dreaming).
