Glut and UV

Hi all, wondering if a UV unit will break down glut into something unusable?

Getting mixed answers off Google.

According to The Barr Report it would have no significant effect.

Agreed, I have ran a uv sterilizer in my tank for quite a while and it had no significant effect on the glut. Fwiw, I'm not even sure how sensitive glut is to light as some people are selling it in clear bottles.

Thanks for the info. I'd wondered as re-ordered quite a lot to make up postage and asked if there was an expiry date. It's 10pct so could be a years supply once I recalc dosage.

Was told no expiry date in the drums (at lfs) and they weren't aware of anything.

But was told to keep it in the dark as it changes colour with light. Which got me thinking.

The glut does actually expire.
It just takes over a year or so....
It does store better in cool dark areas.
Light can degrade it I believe.
You can tell it is losing potency by the smell(you're not supposed to smell it but it does smell less as it ages.)
I buy glut by the gallon which last me 1/2-a year to a year, depending on hiow much I use.
It does smell weaker over time to me.
Mine is in an opaque white bottle(metricide).

Thanks for the link. I've actually been wondering if it smells less as this bottle I've had for over a year but it's hard to know as could be I'm just used to the aroma of 10% stuff.
