Hello, today I got some baby silver hatchet fish and I was wondering if it's normal for them not to eat on the fist day of being in a new tank (could it be stress?). They are swimming and acting fine. I gave them some crushed flake food, but they only swim up to the flakes, look at them for a few secs, and then lose interest.

It is perfectly normal for them not to eat the first day. They might need a couple of days before they are comfortable enough to eat.

Awesome! Thanks a lot guys :) I was a little worried because I thought maybe petsmart didn't take care of em properly or something. I must say I really like the little guys :D. All I have to worry about now is them jumping out of the tank :fadein:

:D I had a school of 6 about 7 months ago. One day I did a pwc and about an hour later they were all dead. VERY odd considering that the Rams and Rummies lived whereas the Hatchets didn't. Just watch them closely and count them every day.

yeah, I used to have hatchets in my 10gal years ago. Very cool little fish, I bought them because I saw them on the discovery channel once (that's right, I watched the discovery channel as a little kid. lol.) As for the feeding, it's no big deal, my mbunas were uninterested in food the first day I had them...now they are revenous eaters. lol
