I got a larger piece of driftwood from my buddy who had it in his tank for quite a few years and he asked me if I wanted it because he did not want it anymore so I took it, I have heard to prep it for a new different tank I would need to submerge it in super hot almost boiling water is that okay and if so for how long or is there something else I need to do?

okay soaking it overnight would be a good extra precaution?

if you want, yes. if he has already taken it out of the tank and its dried up you might have to soak it for it to sink again. when i get driftwood from the store, i soak it in a white bucket to sink it and make sure it doesn't release anything, but since your friend has had it so long i think you'll be good.
