What does that mean when my tiger barbs starts turning gray

I think they are only spooked. When you purchase fish from the store, they are often bleached out as they adjust to their new environment. Give them some time and their color should return. If they don't return then you have some of your parameters wrong. Verify by checking ammonia, nitrite, nitrate and temperature. If these parameters are off, the fish could be sick.
