Help with aquarium upgrade

My buddy got me a bigger aquarium to eventually move my tank into but i have a few questions.....The aquarium used to be salt water but i will be using it as fresh so should i probly change the filter and media since they probly are salty? Ill have more questions when it comes time to move the fish but for now i just want to get the new tank established

Definitely change all of the media and clean the filter out with hot water. Clean the tank out as well. I converted an old salt water tank once and it took a lot of time and effort to get the calcium deposits off.

I would change all media and run the tank for a while then change it again and drain it totally
