I don't know where my test kit is... if that tells you how often I test.
FWIW, I think every hobbyist should have one... especially those new to the hobby. Once you test and get the same readings over and over again, and you know what to look for/do with your aquarium, testing becomes less of an issue... generally. the exception is high tech planted tanks... and of course sw. I'm going to have to up my game on my reef tank, as testing is MUCH more important.
