So i bought a used aquaclear filter to use on a freshwater tank, but it was previously used for saltwater. What is the best way to clean it? How careful do i need to be? Do i need to thoroughly scrub it or just do a pretty good job? How dangerous is the salt buildup to freshwater fish if i miss a bit here or there?

Thanks!

If its really crusty soak in 50/50 vinegar water solution over night then rinse a couple times. IMO a small amount of salt won't be a problem.

It would take quite a large amount of salt buildup to have an effect on an aquarium. Just try to get it decently cleaned and sanitized and you should be fine.
