Aquarium Advice Apprentice
I have a new Synodontis Ocellifer catfish. The first few days it would come out and scrounge around for food, occasionally stopping its search, I suppose, when it found something interesting.
Now it has found a nice dark place, the inside of my ornamental castle and hardly comes out. Since these cats are rumored to be nocturnal eaters I cannot really tell if it is eating.
I am not putting in any special food at this point. I tried lettuce leaves and noticed some small holes within a few days, but I think this cat prefers more substantial protein based foods. My other tankmates are very small Malawi cichlids that are fed a high protein flake food that sinks pretty quickly. Unfortunately they are also greedy and will eat and eat, and then when food sinks to the bottom they take a 5 minute breather and peck around the rocks for the leftovers.
Anything I can do to check whether it is eating? I'd rather not remove my castle since it seems to like it and I do also.
