I Have Hit a Bump.

So I think I have a problem. My tank is cycling and I've been having extremely high nitrAtes (80-160). I know the only way to remove them is with WCs. The problem is... My tap water has nitrAtes. What should I do.

How high are the nitrates out of your tap? My city water runs from 10 to almost 40ppm on any given day. It just means i have to do alot of big pwcs to keep them the levels down as low as possible. If your tank is still cycling, i wont worry about the nitrate levels until its done & your ready for fish-then you will need to do some 100% wcs to get the levels as low as possible.

Can you get water from somewhere else? We have well water, so we get water from a friend. It can be a pain though.

What is the reading of nitrates in your tap?

We have well water too. It comes out 20 from the tap.

I would just do frequent water changes unless there is a way for you to get water from somewhere else.
