I recently bought the guy, he was labeled as a whiptail catfish.. But after doing research I've found that's not correct. Any help on identifying this guy would be great!

The whiptail catfish that I've seen online is referring to a Farlowella, aka stick catfish/whiptail catfish. This guy is silver and has a round head, spikes all over and a long skinny tail coming of the normal tail. You can kinda see it in the pictures it's really tiny and thin.
