Not really a source of food but it's fine hair like leaves trap bits of waste and food which shrimp and sucking fish love aswell as normal fish.

Is moss ball source of food too?
Marimo moss balls? I dunno about those, but Java Moss grows microorganisms upon which baby fish (And shrimp) feed upon. My RCS eat the bio-film in particular, without harming the plant. It's pretty funny to watch them use their little arms to eat the stuff on the Java Moss.
