I just started noticing some fuzzy stuff growing on the back of one of my driftwoods. I didn't notice it until now, since it's in a hidden spot, so I don't know when it started.

I wanted to confirm that it's black brush algae and possible solutions.

My tank
  • 12 Gallon Fluval Edge
  • Lighting: stock lighting, 10 hrs/day
  • Planted tank, no CO2
  • Inhabitants: 2 otocinclus, a bunch of red crystal shrimp, 1 assassin snail
  • Weekly water changes of about 25%-30%.

I attached photos of the fuzzy stuff.

Yes, it appears to be BBA. You can take a plastic syringe and slowly apply hydrogen peroxide to treat the BBA for a couple of days. For the long term, increasing the water changes should improve the situation.
