Jewel Cichlid Tank

What is the smallest possible tank size that you guys would recommend for a pair of jewels to be housed in. No other fish would be in it.

I have not owned them but they do get to be about 5" and are very territorial and very aggressive. Temperament is more like new world cichlids which I have had allot of. So given that I would not go smaller than a 40 breeder for a group.
