Kooli loach

So I have a small about two inch tiger kooli loach. Anyways I have two question. 1, what do they eat? I thought they were just scavengers but then today for the first time saw him eat some lettuce that I put out. 2, I only have one in a 55 gal tank. Someone said they like to school is that true? If so haw many should I have?

I've always though loaches do better in a school of at least 3 or 4.

the more the better
my yo yo loachs ate all the zucchini I put in for my pleco before the pleco found it and it was a big piece

I go for the same species if tank space allows.

Imo should go for the same species to get a nice school, then if you have room look at others.
