Soaking DW in salt isn't a good idea as it will take quite a lot to get the absorbed salt out of the wood. Salt is very bad for plants and many fish. Also you would never use Iodized salt as that is Iodine based.

I am not using any form of co2. I can try an anti fungal. This is just getting expensive as I just did a round of erthymicin.
