Would anyone care to share thier opinions on using lava rock in place of bio-balls in a wet/dry trickle filter for a freshwater aquarium? Your input would be appreciated!

No personal experience as I use bioballs, Biomax/Matrix, and pot scubbies from the dollar store in my sumps, but from reading on other forums it sounds ok but IMO there is better media to use. I understand the "live rock" theory in a wet/dry and it certainly works in SW applications but I think you would have better results with another form of media.
