Is it true your fish can become lighter in color if you leave the lights on for longer than usual?

curious myself, I was gone for 4 days, left the lights off, dont have a timer yet for em, and when i got back all the guppies were alot lighter in color, left the lights on for a day and bam bright again. opposite of yours but thought it was interesting.
