I have seen a few posts where litres (liters for you 'mericans) is quoted. I got out my handy "All About Tropical Fish" book (McInerny & Gerard 1989) and turned to the index to get some figures.

Ok Now there are Imerial Gallons that the Brits used to use and the American gallons, which are smaller. I bet this was used to rip off the Brits in colonial days... "Oh that will be 44 gallons of Rum please" the thousands of miles away they can't complain when they don't get what they expect, only 83% of what they thought. But I digress.

There are about 4 litres in 1 US Gallon.
There are about 5 litres in 1 UK Gallon. Those figures are close enough for government work but to be a bit more accurate here are some interesting facts from the book.

UK Gallons into Litres multiply the gallons figure by 4.55
US Gallons into Litres multiply the gallons figure by 3.79
Litres into US Gallons multiply the litres figure by 0.26
Litres into UK Gallons multiply the litres figure by 0.22
UK Gallons to US Gallons multiply by 0.83

Hope that helps... there is more but it might not be directly useful.
