Good morning all

I have two rain barrels that catch water from the roof gutters.
Yesterday I "dunked" a white bucket for some water for some outdoor plants.
I let it sit for about 5 minutes, when I went back it was full of mosquito larvae and Daphnia.
So, I took a fishnet and fed my fish some live food.
I’ve never bought a live Daphnia culture, I’m not sure how they arrived.
I’m thinking about trying to raise some in a small indoor tank.
The reason I was surprised was usually they show up later in the year.

Wifey doesn't like it much, she’s afraid some will escape and hatch.
But with my fish there's not a chance.

Last summer I also got some small red larvae called "Chironomid"
They are only about 3/8” long and bright red in color.
The fish go nuts over them.
That’s a welcome change from dry or frozen food.

A couple of years ago I also built a bathouse and the bats help control
the mosquito population.

That’s one good thing about living in sunny El Paso.

Charles
