Maximizing space in a small tank

Anyone think this is a viable idea?

Take a small 5 gallon, then construct a platform halfway up the water column slightly smaller than the foot print of tank effectively doubling the floor space of the tank. I know water volume is small but for bottom dwelling fish it seems like a pretty convenient way of squeezing an extra fish in.

Just ruminating on how I'm going to fit as many gobies in my room as possible lol.
 
Always fiddling with something or another. Just need to make sure there's no oversight or something I'm missing.
