so i was feeding the tank today, and i looked over and noticed this black fuzzy thing on one of my pieces of driftwood.. got a couple pictures, just wondering what it is and how to get rid of it.

i think that it is black-beard algae

is this tank planted?

you can up your co2 concentration over 30 ppm if it is.

you can spot treat with excel

or you can dip the wood in bleach

the tank used to be planted, it isnt now. different substrate, but same driftwood, i have excel, when i do my pwc this week i will put some excel on those spots and see if that clears it up

do u happen to know what causes it so i can rectify the situation?

Sure looks like BBA to me as well. If it is just on the wood, you could remove the wood and dip it. Consistent CO2 levels should keep it from coming back.

I have what appears to be a similar substance on my amazon sword(which hasn't grown a bit since i put it in my tank several weeks ago). It is also on some of my anacharis. How would I treat that?

no c02, 65w cf

do you think a bn pleco would take care of it? cuz im going to be gettin another 2 prolly this weekend. just wanted to know if they will take care of it, if it happens again
