I have some serious algae or some kind of slime growing on my mopani wood. It appears greenish brown and I tried pulling some off with tweezers and it just stretches like play slime (it is not that thick though). I soaked one piece in potassium permanganate and it appears to have stayed clean, but I'm worried about what it actually is because it has started growing on the other wood. Anybody have any idea what it is?

Thanks

My camera sucks. I am going to pull it out to dip in potassium permanganate and I'll see if I can get a good pic. Thanks :)

I should elaborate on my set up. It is a 20 gallon betta tank with only the betta in it. I do have a very small filter-maybe 20 gallons per hour.

Ok. Just finished cleaning the tank....the slime turns to a dark brown dust like substance when I soak it in potassium permanganate. Could it be brown diatoms??
