Moving tank

I'm looking at moving my 37g tank from my bedroom down to my basement. Which will be down a set of steps. What do I need to do that will cause the least damage to my plants, and tank overall???

Wouldn't it be as easy as filling a bucket with tank water, putting plants in bucket with the water. Draining the tank and moving it?

Yeah I guess so, this is going to be a lot of work!
