my fish died

Sadly, my 2 otos and all 4 of my ghost shrimp died while i was on vacation for 5 days. I fed them before i left so i figured they would be ok. Those, IMO, where the least likely to die bcause they feed on algae and missed food tidbits. Well, at least im still have my 3 black phantom tetras.

this is what I don't understand.....

Why is it that fish commonly die when an aquarists goes on vacation ???

is it just Pure coincidence ??

surely a fish can survive without food for 5 days.
and
I doubt skipping 1 water change will do a big harm

Probably one died first, fouled the water, and that's what killed the others. Otos don't have a reputation for hardiness.

Sorry for your loss. I have never kept an otto alive for more than a couple of months even when I am home.

Sorry for your loss! That's not a fun thing to come home to. When we went on vacation, a friend of mine fed the fish (aparently way too much). All 3 of my cories died (but mysteriously just disappeared, she claims she never fished any bodies out, they were just gone).

well today after i came home from school i saw the smallest of the 4 ghost shrimp. i was so happy to see at least one of them alive. I also saw this bluish gray snail with the spiral sticking out shell. does anyone know what that snail is called? answers appreciated.
