I got a new tank for my betta and he sees him self in it and flares up. I can put my hand in front of him and he will stop. But what do I do when I'm gone.

My male Betta has the same issue - he was obsessed with his reflection anywhere it showed up... I got a bunch of floating plants and anchored them in front of the places he would flare at and he is just fine now. So get some floating plants or a tall plant and keep it where he sees himself most. What size tank is he in? If there is a dark background you might want to try to change it, putting something white behind it to reduce the reflective places.

Eventually he will get used to it and stop flaring.

When I was breeding them, every time I'd add a new betta, the old ones would flare. After about a week they realized there was no point to it and stop. Until it came time to show them a female.
