ok, I'm looking for an algae eating fish to go into my cichlid tank. currently there are 8 cichlids (johanni, yellow labs, bumble bees) and two syno cats and one whiptail cat (yes my sig isn't updated but oh well)

anyways, the tank params are -- ph 7.8 -- temp 78

so I want to try and match something that would match these in the wild..

a pleco ?

the syno cats eat algae at the bottom, but thats about it :(

I don't think any plecos live in 7.6+ pH water in the wild but will be fine if acclimated properly.

well im getting a new tank.. yes MTS has begun, so size really doesn't matter right now.

Bristlenose plecos are very often used in African cichlid setups, and you could have two or three. I have 7.6 pH out of the tap and never had a problem keeping any kind of pleco, so no worries there.

CAE's also like to start sucking slime coats off other fish, and stop eating algae when they mature. Not always, but pretty common.
