Neon Tetras schooling.

Hi.

I currently have 2 neon Tetras and want to add 4 or 5 in the future. Will they all school together automaticaly or will the original two stay away from the new ones?

They will most likely automatically school together.

They'll likely school together for a period of time.


But, depending on what's in the tank, they may become confident enough to not need to school.

Larger fish will encourage schooling as it is a defence mechanism.

Neon tetra are known for carrying disease and adding them in stages could risk the stock.

When I add neons, I add them first and generally with the amount I plan to end with.

Thanks guys. I really want to put Tiger Barbs in with them but since I have a 50L tank it might not work.

Tiger barbs are mean nippy little devils. I would keep them in a species only tank. Defitanly not with neons.

+1 on them being little devils lol.

And with the size tank OP has, tiger barbs would be overly aggressive as they need much more space.
